If you do choose to solder, be sure to glue of fix the wires to the PCB so that you don't pull the pads off or break the solder connection when you move the router. You're going to need to connect the wires to an adapter, plug and unplug a USB drive and ethernet cable and even small stresses on tiny soldering joins might break them.

Based on FIrmware 6.My connection is dropping constantly, it can range from anywhere between every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, I have paid for fibre as I game a lot however this problem has meant I havent been able to play for weeks. I go through the troubleshoots and it just comes back saying my connection is fine which it clearly isnt.

I am seriously thinking of switching to Virgin, it is a little bit more expensive but if I end up having to pay for an engineer with BT to fix this I might as well just switch. Are you connecting to the Hub via a wireless or wired connection? Can you post the stats from your HH5? Can you try connecting the Hub to the test socket the socket behind the removable part of the master socketvia a microfilter, if you haven't already done so?

Can you complete a quiet line test also in the test socketby dialing option 2? There should be no noise other than a dull hum if using a cordless phone. So Ive had this issue a couple of times, and from what I've managed to deduce is that when this is not due to a bad line it seems to be because BT is trying to connect to your home hub but is unable, it has happened to me when they released a firmware update, you need to do a factory reset to get the update it seems, but because it keeps trying and failing when you are just unaware and normally connected it interupts the signal somehow or actually tells the hub to restart, which doesnt actually let it install still.

More recently it happened when I renewed my BT contract, instead of letting current accounts carry on as normal they treat you as a new customer and send out a message to the hub to give you the setup page, however I was on a VPN so BT couldnt get through to my computer and was perhaps trying wirelessly, which is why some people I see have suggested that turning off wireless helped their problem.

But as it couldnt reach my hub either wired or wirelessly it kept resetting the hub. I havent explained it particularly well, but the solution that has worked for me is to do a factory reset, and then connect cleanly to the internet, i.

Anyway this might not work for everyone, but a place to start for ones that cant find a line fault because it drove me crazy looking for clues on here to the solution so I thought I'd share my success. Glad you sulotion appeared to work for you but I think this has already been solved as this thread is 2 years old!

Yeah I know it's old but it comes up as the top google search so I figured people with the same issue would come here first as I did, when searching for solutions, worth trying before bothering an engineer, I noticed the logs showed lots of remote administarion requests prior to disconnects and since completing the welcome page when I allowed it to get through the issue ceased for me. Thanks: There is a guide on the OpenWRT Wiki pages on how this is done, however it did probably take me longer than it needed to do this as there was certain knowledge and steps which where just assumed which is great if you do this kind of thing all the time but not so great if it is the first time you have flashed a firmware using UART. This rough guide is also applicable to the BT Home Hub 5a.
